Getting started
Who CoachED is for and where to begin.
Which level should I start at?
New coaches, parents, teachers and volunteers usually start at Level 1 Foundations. Coaches already working with teams often start at Level 2 Fundamentals.
Levels 3 and 4 are for coaches working towards, or already in, the professional game, and you apply for a place.
Do I have to start at Level 1?
No. Start at the level that matches your experience. Levels 1 and 2 are open to everyone. For Levels 3 and 4 we recommend completing the level below first, but it isn't a requirement.
Who is CoachED for?
Anyone who coaches cricket, or wants to: parents and volunteers at junior clubs, school and club coaches, academy and pathway staff, and coaches working in the professional game. Coaches from over 40 countries have learnt with CoachED.
Who is behind CoachED?
CoachED was built by Gary Kirsten, the World Cup-winning former India and South Africa head coach, together with leading specialist coaches and practitioners from the modern game. Their videos, drills and thinking run through every course.
Is CoachED endorsed by the ICC or my national board?
CoachED is an independent coach education programme and isn't currently endorsed by the ICC.
It is designed to complement your national board's coaching badges, not replace them: it keeps you current with the modern game and counts towards your continuing professional development.
How does CoachED compare to my national coaching badges?
National badges cover the essentials for your country. CoachED adds international, professional-level insight, topics many badge courses don't cover, and a global community of coaches. Many coaches use it to keep learning between badges, or when an in-person course isn't available near them.
Levels 1 and 2
Self-paced online certifications.
How do Levels 1 and 2 work?
Both are fully online and self-paced. Enrol at any time, work through the videos, animations and drills on any device, then take the online examinations to earn your certificate.
How long do I have to finish?
You have 3 months of access from the day you enrol. Work at whatever pace suits you within that time.
How long does each course take?
It depends on you. Level 1 is a short introduction that many coaches finish in a few evenings or weekends. Level 2 is much bigger, with 11 modules and over 150 videos, so most coaches spread it across several weeks.
How are the exams marked?
The exams are online and marked automatically, so you see your result straight away. You need 80% or more to pass.
Level 1 ends with one examination. In Level 2, ten of the modules end with their own examination.
What happens if I don't pass an exam?
You get two attempts at each examination. If you still need help after that, contact us and we'll talk you through your options.
Can I get the learning without the exams?
Yes. CoachED Silver membership includes all of the Level 1 learning, and Gold adds all of the Level 2 learning. The examinations and certificates come with the Level 1 and Level 2 courses.
How much do Levels 1 and 2 cost?
Level 1 Foundations is $95 and Level 2 Fundamentals is $270, each a one-off payment in US dollars.
Levels 3 and 4
Mentored cohorts for the professional game.
How do Levels 3 and 4 work?
Both are 8-week online cohorts. You study the modules in two phases, join live sessions with Gary Kirsten, complete examinations and practical assignments, and get personal feedback from your mentor. A feedback week and an online graduation follow.
How do I apply?
Apply online for the cohort you want. We review every application, and if you're accepted, paying the first instalment (or the full fee) secures your place. You meet everyone at the orientation webinar.
When does the next cohort start?
Levels 3 and 4 each run four cohorts a year. The upcoming dates are on each course page, where you can apply or ask us to remind you before a cohort starts. Places are limited, and Level 4 takes just 15 coaches per cohort.
How much time will it take each week?
Plan for 10 to 15 hours of self-driven study a week over the eight weeks. The live sessions are recorded, so you can fit them around your coaching and work.
How am I assessed?
Through online examinations and practical assignments, marked by your mentor with personal feedback. You graduate with a combined score of over 70%.
Assignments are uploaded on the course page as PDF, Word or PowerPoint documents, or as MP4 or MOV videos for practical work.
Why are there two phases?
Phase 1 builds the foundations. Phase 2 unlocks once your Phase 1 modules, examinations and assignments are complete, so everyone in the cohort moves forward together.
What if I miss a live session?
Every live session is recorded, so you can catch up or watch it again. That helps when a session falls at an awkward time in your part of the world.
Who is my mentor?
Each coach is matched with an experienced CoachED mentor for the cohort. Your mentor marks your assignments, gives you written feedback and is your first point of contact during the course.
Certificates
Getting, sharing and verifying your certificate.
When do I get my certificate?
As soon as you complete the course requirements. Levels 1 and 2 issue your certificate automatically when you pass. For Levels 3 and 4, it is issued once your final marks are released and you graduate.
Where do I find my certificate?
Log in and open Certificates in your account. You can download it as a PDF or an image to print or share on social media.
How can a club or employer check my certificate?
Every CoachED certificate has a unique certificate ID. Anyone can check it on our verification page.
My name is wrong on my certificate. What should I do?
Contact us with the correct spelling and your certificate ID, and we'll update it for you.
What are CPD points?
Continuous Professional Development points build up as you keep learning with CoachED, so you can show your development beyond your course certificates.
Membership and billing
Plans, payments and cancelling.
What is CoachED membership?
Ongoing learning between certifications: Gary's Coaching Thought of the Week, Sprint Courses, podcasts and a global community of coaches. Every account starts free on Blue, and you can upgrade to Silver or Gold for more.
Is Blue really free?
Yes. Every CoachED account starts on Blue at no cost, and you don't need a card to sign up.
What's the difference between Silver and Gold?
Silver ($4.99 a month) unlocks the full Sprint Course and podcast libraries and all of the Level 1 learning. Gold ($9.99 a month) adds all of the Level 2 learning and the Changeroom Chats archive.
Can I cancel or change my plan?
Yes. Silver and Gold are billed monthly, and you can change plans or cancel at any time from your account.
Does membership include a certificate?
No. Membership gives you the learning. The certification courses, Levels 1 to 4, include the examinations and your official CoachED certificate, and are bought separately.
How do I pay?
Prices are in US dollars, and you pay securely online by card. Your bank converts the amount into your own currency.
Can I get an invoice, or can my club or employer pay?
Yes. Contact us with the course, the coach's name and the details that need to appear on the invoice, and we'll help.
Your account
Logging in and technical help.
What do I need to take part?
An email address and internet access on a smartphone, tablet or computer. Everything runs in your browser, so there's nothing to install.
I've forgotten my password.
Use 'Forgot password' on the login page and we'll email you a link to set a new one. If it doesn't arrive within a few minutes, check your spam or junk folder.
Can I sign in with Google?
Yes. If you already have a CoachED account with a password, log in once with your password, then choose Connect Google from your account menu. After that, either way works.
A video won't play. What should I try?
Refresh the page, try another browser, or switch to a stronger connection. Videos adjust to your connection speed, so a slow network can take a moment to start. If it still won't play, contact us with the course and lesson name.
Clubs and organisations
Coach development for teams of coaches.
Can we enrol a group of coaches?
Yes. Clubs, schools, academies and associations can set up an organisation online in a minute, add their coaches, and pay by card or invoice, with 10% off from 5 coaches and 20% off from 20. For 50 or more coaches, or if you'd like a hand, tell us what you need and we'll put a plan together.
Do you work with associations and partners?
Yes. We're always happy to talk about partnerships, coach development programmes and media requests.
