As the new intake get to grips with their CoachED Cricket Online Coaching programme’s ELITE Accreditation, assistant coach to the Netherlands men’s national team James Hilditch became part of the exclusive ‘900 Club’ where he scored over 90% in the recently completed ELITE Accreditation course.
Hilditch is a former age group state player in Australia, however during his playing days he spent a lot of time on the side-lines injured. This forced him to change his approach and move to coaching which has taken him to international coaching.
Moving through the ranks and getting to the international level of coaching hasn’t diminished Hilditch’s passion for learning.
“As a coach, you are always looking to challenge yourself and constantly wanting to learn and get better,” Hilditch said.
“During the lockdown, the format of this course being online was perfect.”
“I was also drawn in by the names who were running the course, as they have been involved with both some of the biggest International and franchise teams in the world. I was fascinated to learn from the best, and wanted to challenge my coaching philosophies and theories against theirs.”
“Personally, I love to see what other coaches do and what their strengths are. To be able to have one on one zoom sessions with coaches of their calibre was going to be invaluable for me.”
Receiving over 90% for his efforts during the course was a significant achievement, however Hilditch was determined that he would put the right amount of effort and work into the course so he could get the most out of it.
“I found the course to be very intellectually stimulating but also challenging.”
“With the accreditation examinations, it was great to check in with the fundamentals of the game and to highlight to yourself where you’re at with this.”
“It is probably a good 15-18 hours of work a week if you are thorough, however, the connections you build in the group assignments and the in-depth analysis of your ELITE examination answers is absolutely priceless for any coach.”
“It is always hard when you’re working as a coach to get independent feedback on your work, and I really enjoyed receiving it and seeing what Ryan (Cook) and Gary (Kirsten) had to say. I definitely learnt a lot from this process.”
Hilditch’s experience with the ELITE Accreditation was completely unique to anything that he has done before and he was full of praise for the course and those that were involved in making it so invaluable.
“CoachED Cricket coaching course would be a valuable endeavour for any coach to undertake, regardless of their level of experience or previous accreditation.”
“It was a fantastically run course and taught by some of the best cricket thinkers around. The level of one-on-one contact between the course coordinators (in Gary Kirsten & Ryan Cook) is unrivalled by other coaching courses.”
“Having the likes of Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Andy Flower, Graeme Smith, Faf Du Plessis, Justin Langer and many more talk about their coaching theories/philosophies, reflecting on their careers and providing advice to young coaches was absolutely invaluable and has definitely already helped me become a better coach.”
“The rarity about this course is after its completion there is still continued contact, and a support system developed between the coaches on the course that I can now use as a resource moving forward,” he added.
